International bestselling Irish-born author Emma Donoghue makes her first visit to the Center for the Book. Her critically acclaimed historical/contemporary novels include ”The Sealed Letter,” ”Lending” ”Room” and ”Slammerkin,” and she has an exciting new book to talk about: ”Astray.” In this novel filled with rich historical detail, her characters have all gone astray: emigrants, runaways, drifters, lovers old and new, men and women of all ages. Moving from Puritan Massachusetts to antebellum Louisiana, the author offers a surprising and moving history for restless times. A native of Dublin, Donoghue received a PhD in 18th century literature at Cambridge before moving to Ontario where she now makes her home. In addition to novels, she also writes literary history and radio and stage plays.
