An Evening of Ecology

Decatur Library Auditorium

March 11, 2013, 7:15 P.M.

We invite you to a special evening with three authors who have put together a landmark reference to the astonishing ecological diversity of our state. Their book is ”The Natural Communities of Georgia,” and it is a most remarkable and handsome publication from the University of Georgia Press. It offers an overview of the state’s natural landscapes and makes the case that identifying these distinctive communities and the factors that determine their distribution are central to understanding Georgia’s ecological breadth and the steps necessary for its conservation. The authors are Leslie Edwards, a lecturer at Georgia State University; Jonathan Ambrose, with the Wildlife Resources Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources; and L. Katherine Kirkman, a scientist of plant ecology at the Joseph W. Jones Ecological Research Center at Ichauway. There are some 400 spectacular photographs in the book, taken by photographers Hugh and Carol Nourse, and we know you’ll find this illustrated talk to be fascinating. We will have copies of this book available for purchase and signing at the event.
