Tara Conklin’s debut novel ”The House Girl” is a dazzler: historical fiction set in 1850s slave-holding Virginia and modern-day New York, a story of love and a search for justice. Weaving together the story of an escaped slave in the pre-Civil War South and a contemporary lawyer seeking compensation for the families of slaves, Conklin creates two remarkable, ujnforgettable heroines. Critics call it ”assured and arresting” and ”brilliantly executed and packed with surprises.” Conklin was born in the US Virgin Islands, raised in Massachusetts and graduated from Yale University. She is a joint US-UK citizen and holds a law degree. We will have copies of her novel for sale at this event.
